Working with corporate clients
For the most part, typos don't make or break a sale or bankrupt a company. They don't turn off new clients and really don't affect a company's bottom line. In fact, most people don't even notice typos (except my mom). It's grammar police like us who care. We relish at finding errors, and pointing them out with our red pen to the rest of the world.
When working with companies and even non-profits, presenting examples is not only entertaining but also persuasive that high-level proofreading helps companies avoid PR gaffes and embarrassing mistakes. Also, when it comes to law, finance and healthcare and sensitive materials, avoiding lawsuits is an attractive feature.
There are instances where one tiny mistake has killed credibility for a company, such as the Macy's mailer that incorrectly stated a $1,500 necklace was on sale for only $47 â a major PR gaffe and financial mess for a well-established department store.
A single letter or, in this case, number, can cost your clients lots of money, not to mention the time and energy to repair the damage to its reputation. When we appeal to business clients, they must know that when typos strike, the aftermath is disastrous to credibility and future sales.
